When you think of making money on YouTube, you probably think of the thousands of dollars that YouTube stars like Casey Neistat, Luzu Vlogs, and others make every month from their YouTube channel. 

It will take hard work and dedication if you want to follow in their footsteps and quit your day job. But what if you don't have time to do all the work required? 

What if your goal is to make some extra cash? There are ways to make money on YouTube without being a creator, but they aren't necessarily easy.

1) Monetizing views

If you already have a channel with a consistent following, turning your views into money is much easier. To monetize your existing ideas, head over to YouTube's Partner Program and create an account if you don't already have one.

Next, click on Monetization under the Video Manager tab and check off Enable Monetization. After that, scroll down until you see Shares of Ad Revenue, allowing viewers to contribute revenue from ads they watch. 

You can customize how many ads are played per hour (the higher this number is set, the more money you will make) or set it up so that no ads play.

When you're done, click Apply Changes and then go back to Videos, where you'll be prompted to select videos for Monetization. Once selected, click on Monetizations again and select Earnings Reports for detailed reports about your earnings. 

You'll also see what percentage of the total profits come from specific regions like the United States, Canada, and India.
 
If you haven't built up a following yet but still want to make some cash by watching ads every once in awhile while scrolling through Instagram or Facebook, try out some apps like Parsec.
 
You won't get rich overnight but think of it as an extra income stream. Registering with multiple platforms is not bad since different companies offer different rates

Don't forget that you might need approval before being accepted into their networks, and new partners might not always take old partner accounts. 

One thing you should keep in mind when trying to find a platform that suits your needs best is whether or not they specialize in certain types of content. 

For example, Red Bull has a wide variety of sports content for monetizing views. As long as you find something that matches what kind of content you upload, there shouldn't be any problem making money with video-sharing sites.

All you need to do is find one product that aligns with your content and create an affiliate link that points to the merchant's website. 

When somebody clicks on this link and buys something within 24 hours, they'll be awarded a commission (which starts at 5%). Amazon is an example of an affiliate company with which many people succeed. 

Once you have a good number of followers, use one of these links in your videos, posts, and comments to promote products relevant to your discussion. For instance, if you are going to review the best portable air conditioner, find one with an affiliate program and add them to your video description.

You'll get paid a percentage every time someone buys through the link because they'll think you know what you're talking about regarding the best portable air conditioner! Remember to disclose this information so that there aren't any legal issues. 

Tip: Finding a niche category and researching popular affiliate offers might help you decide where to focus your efforts.
